3 seconds...

An inhale and an exhale. That’s all you get from a website visitor. That’s the amount of time you have to get a person on board — at least a little bit. At least enough to earn their second breath to make your case.

Your website exists to attract, convince and convert. If you fail to impress, you've lost them! Every effort should be made to design and build a site that’s visually pleasing, easy to navigate and answers a customer’s question.

The most successful websites use these first 3 seconds wisely, and in this short article, we'll show you how you can maximize them and make your website profitable.

Let's begin!

Here are the 6 reasons why your website is not getting you enough business

1. Poor design. Your site does not reflect the value of what you're selling

How are you positioned in the marketplace? Do you offer high quality products or services, or are they value based? If you don't have an appealing online presence that properly represents your business  - you're doing yourself a disservice. If your website fails to impress or puts off a potential new customer, it may well be the last time that visitor considers doing business with you.

2. Your website takes too long to load

Go and pull up your website on your phone. How many seconds did it take to load? If the answer is longer than 3 seconds, we've got some work to do! Users who are frustrated by a slow-loading site are likely to "bounce" - that is, visit your website once, leave and never return. A short loading time is a great way to help users get where they're going faster i.e. increase usability - and happier visitors are more likely to convert.

3. Your website is missing a clear value proposition or mission statement

Ever sat through a sales pitch or presentation and left the room with no idea what the speaker was selling? A value proposition is a short and clear statement explaining the value of your product, and the primary reason a prospect should buy from you. This statement should quickly allow a buyer to confirm they found what they are looking for, and motivate them to stay on your site.

4. There's no clear call-to-action

So visitors come to your site – now what? Every page should have some call-to-action, whether it’s inviting them to sign up for your newsletter, take a step closer to purchasing your product or service or contacting you for more information. Never leave people wondering what the next step should be.

5. Your website is not mobile-friendly

What happens when you try visiting your website from a mobile device or a tablet? Does the content automatically adapt to the size of your screen, or does it stay static and require you to zoom in?

6. People can't find you

Do a search on Google for what you're selling.

For example: ''hair salon near me''. Are you visible on the first page of Google search results? If not, your website may need some Search Engine Optimization (SEO) work. It will provide your business visibility, branding, web traffic, a high ROI, credibility, and insight into customer behavior.
